Hans J. Wegner’s CH24 Wishbone (Carl Hansen & Søn) is the Y-back dining chair people mean when they say “wishbone.” Exact chairs are a real budget line. Similar Y-backs are everywhere. This is how I use them at a table without lying about the label.

That commission does not decide which products I choose or what I write about them. I have not tested the products myself unless I clearly say so. Exact CH24 versus Y-back lookalikes

• Exact Carl Hansen CH24 Wishbone if verified · exact · [[product:carl-hansen-ch24]] • Similar Y-back dining chair · similar to · [[product:wishbone-chair]] • Dining table · similar to · [[product:oak-dining-table]]
Only Carl Hansen CH24 (and authorised vintage) should be captioned exact Wishbone.
Paper-cord seats, steam-bent arms, and the Y splat are the tells. Lookalikes vary in cord quality and arm curve. Designer background: Wegner.
Comfort for a long dinner

• Wishbone or Y-back chair tucked · exact or similar as labelled • Table apron clearance · mood • Arm height vs table underside · mood
Check arm height under your table; some tops fight Wishbone arms.
Paper cord is beautiful and needs sensible care (no standing on seats; watch sharp belt buckles). For nightly laptop use, add a thin cushion only if it does not wreck the line you bought.
Round tables love them

• Round dining table · similar to · [[product:round-oak-dining-table]] • Wishbone-style chairs · similar to · [[product:wishbone-chair]] (exact CH24 if verified) • Pendant above · similar to · [[product:dining-pendant]]
The curved arm and open back suit round tables where knees and elbows meet.
Four chairs around a 110-120 cm round is a common calm setup; measure your room. More on rounds: round dining table for a small dining room.
Mix with a bench on one side

• Wishbone chairs · similar to · [[product:wishbone-chair]] • Dining bench · similar to · [[product:dining-bench]] • Rectangular table · similar to · [[product:rect-oak-dining-table]]
A bench on the wall side saves space; Wishbones on the room side keep the icon read.
Keep seat heights aligned. Kids slide on benches more easily than on paper cord.
Wood tones and paper-cord colour

• Chair wood + cord colour · exact or similar as labelled · [[product:carl-hansen-ch24]] or [[product:wishbone-chair]] • Table wood nearby · similar to · [[product:oak-dining-table]]
Match or clearly contrast wood families; muddy near-miss oak looks accidental.
Natural cord goes easy with light oak. Black cord sharpens a quieter table. Soap-finished vs oiled wood changes how the set ages.
When I pick Series 7 instead

• Wishbone with arms · similar to or exact as labelled • Series 7-style armless · similar to · [[product:series-7-chair]] • Narrow table · mood
On a narrow table or tight wall run, armless chairs (Series 7 family) often fit better than Wishbone arms.
Full compare: Series 7 and the quiet dining chair. Both can live in the same home in different rooms if labels stay honest.
Budget the chairs as a set. Six exact CH24s are a different decision from two exact hosts’ chairs plus similar side chairs. Say which is which on the product cards.
