Most TV furniture announces the screen before you notice the room. The better move is a low console that could pass as a sideboard, with space for a soundbar and a plan for cables. This is about pieces that support the TV without dressing as one.

That commission does not decide which products I choose or what I write about them. I have not tested the products myself unless I clearly say so. Low, wide, and furniture-first

• Media console / TV cabinet · similar to · [[product:media-console]] • TV (wall or on stand) · mood • Rug edge · similar to · [[product:living-room-rug]]
Choose a console you would keep if the TV moved rooms.
Black gloss cubes with chrome legs date fast. Oak, walnut, painted fluted doors, or a quiet stone top read as living furniture. Width should roughly match or slightly exceed the screen so the wall does not look top-heavy.
Cable plan before pretty doors

• Console with rear access · similar to · [[product:media-console]] • Cable management · mood • Decoder / router placement inside · mood
If you cannot reach plugs without pulling the whole unit out, you will hate it in six months.
Look for rear cut-outs, an open back, or a removable panel. Leave a ventilated bay for anything that runs warm. Fabric baskets hide mess but trap heat; use them for remotes and games, not amplifiers.
Soundbar and centre-speaker gaps

• Console top clear for soundbar · similar to · [[product:media-console]] • Soundbar · mood • Optional centre speaker bay · mood
Measure the soundbar depth; many “media benches” leave no honest ledge.
Some designs include a recessed shelf. Others need the bar on the top plane in front of the screen stand. Wall-mounted TVs free the top for a single sculptural object instead.
Fluted, reeded and calm fronts

• Fluted / reeded media unit · similar to · [[product:fluted-media-console]] • Soft styling on top (one vase or book stack) · mood • Art on side wall · exact Seven Paper where used · /recommends/spp-neutral-soft?src=tv-cabinets
Texture on the doors beats another expanse of flat chipboard.
Fluted fronts hide fingerprints better than high gloss. Keep the top almost empty so the room does not become a gadget shrine. One lamp on a side table often lights evenings better than LEDs under the TV.
Wall-mount the screen, keep the console human

• Wall-mounted TV · mood • Low console as storage · similar to · [[product:low-sideboard]] • Plant or lamp off to the side · similar to · [[product:table-lamp]]
Mounting the TV lets the cabinet go back to being a sideboard that happens to live under a screen.
Follow the maker’s wall and bracket guidance; I am not your installer. Height: eye level when seated on your sofa, not standing in the doorway. Cross-link storage logic: sideboards that hide the mess.
Skip the glass tower

• Preferred closed wood console · similar to · [[product:media-console]] • Optional: older glass TV stand as “what to skip” crop if needed · mood
Tall glass-and-chrome TV towers collect dust and scream 2009.
If you need vertical storage, a proper bookcase beside the screen wall is cleaner than a glass ladder under the TV. Keep kids’ games in closed cabinets, not on display shelves meant for design books.
*Evening light still matters more than the console brand. Layer a floor or wall lamp so movie night is not only the screen: how to layer light so a room works at night.*
