Swing-arm wall lamps for reading corners

A swing-arm wall lamp is the reading light that does not steal floor space. Mounted right, it puts a pool of light on the page and folds back when you are done. Why a swing-arm instead of a floor lamp

Use a swing-arm when the corner is tight or the floor lamp base always ends up in the walk path.

Height and reach that actually work

Mount so the shade sits just above seated shoulder height when the arm is over the chair.

Reach should clear the chair arm without the joint hanging in your face. Test with a cardboard mock-up before drilling. If you share the seat, check both left and right handed reading positions.

A directed shade beats a bare bulb on a stick.

Tolomeo-style arms are task tools: honest similar to language unless the frame is a verified Artemide. Conical shades (AJ-adjacent) look calmer in a bedroom. Drums soften more but spill wider.

Beside the bed without hotel glare

Bedroom arms should light the book, not your partner's eyes.

Point the shade down and slightly inward. Separate switched arms beat one shared overhead for late reading. Keep colour temperature warm so the room still feels like evening.

Cable, switch, and hardwire vs plug-in

Plug-in arms are kinder in rentals; hardwired looks cleaner long term.

Dress the cord along the skirting or inside a shallow channel. If you hardwire, match the backplate finish to other metal in the room. Dimmer on the circuit is worth it.
