A dark corner makes the whole room feel unfinished at night. A floor lamp is often the fix: light at living height, no ceiling work, easy to move. The full decision tree is in how to choose a floor lamp. This post is the corner case: glow, footprint, and what I skip.
Affiliate links: This page contains affiliate links. If you buy through one, the retailer pays me a commission. It costs you nothing extra. That commission does not decide which products I choose or what I write about them. I have not tested the products myself unless I clearly say so. Prices and availability can change; the retailer's price at the time you order applies. [How I work](https://vestados.com/affiliate-disclosure)

Decide glow versus reading first

• Diffused / linen or opal floor lamp · similar to · [[product:linen-floor-lamp]] or [[product:slim-floor-lamp]] • Sofa edge · similar to · [[product:sofa]] • Art in the glow · exact Seven Paper where used · /recommends/spp-neutral-soft?src=floor-lamps-corners
For a dark empty corner, start with soft glow; save a directed shade for a chair you actually read in.
One lamp rarely does both jobs well. If the corner is just dead space beside a sofa arm, a diffuser changes the room more than a task lamp aimed at the wall.
Slim bases beat marble discs

• Slim floor lamp · similar to · [[product:slim-floor-lamp]] • Optional uplighter · similar to · [[product:uplighter-floor-lamp]] • Clear circulation · mood
In a small corner, a slim base keeps the walk path and the vacuum path.
Wide marble or stone discs (Arco family) need space most apartments do not have. When an arc is the wrong typology, see the Arco lamp problem. Caption exact only for verified icons; otherwise similar to.
Height so you see shade, not bulb

• Floor lamp at sofa-arm height · similar to · [[product:floor-lamp-corner]] • Warm bulb around 2700K · mood • Dimmer if available · mood
From the sofa you should see the shade or the glow, not the lamp inside.
Too short and the bulb punches your eye line. Too tall and the corner still feels dark at seat height. Warm colour temperature keeps evenings calm; cool daylight LEDs make the corner feel like an office.
Reading corners need a different lamp

• Adjustable or conical reading floor lamp · similar to · [[product:reading-floor-lamp]] • Reading chair · similar to · [[product:reading-chair]] or [[product:upright-lounge-chair]] • Side table · similar to · [[product:side-table]]
Put task light slightly behind and beside the chair, aimed at the page.
If you cannot free floor space, a swing-arm on the wall frees the corner entirely: swing-arm wall lamps for reading. Do not force a glow lamp to do reading duty.
Pair with the rest of the layers

• Corner floor lamp · similar to · [[product:floor-lamp-corner]] • Wall wash or sconce · similar to · [[product:up-down-sconce]] • Table lamp on sideboard · similar to · [[product:table-lamp]]
A corner lamp is one layer, not the whole lighting plan.
Ambient, task, and accent still need to talk to each other. Full layering: how to layer light so a room works at night. Product cards: view offer at the cheapest tracked store when live; until then text/price on the product page.
What I skip in a dark corner

• Oversized arc base · similar to · [[product:arco-style-floor-lamp]] (usually skip here) • Glare-heavy exposed bulb · mood (skip) • Better slim alternative · similar to · [[product:slim-floor-lamp]]
Skip the wide arc, the cool-white spotlight, and anything that trips the path.
A dark corner needs soft fill and a small footprint. Broader picks sit in how to choose a floor lamp.
